National Pizza Awards confirms 2017 finalists

The National Pizza Awards 2017 has confirmed the 16 pizzerias that will do battle at the live final to be named the UK’s best.

Returning to Islington Metal Works in London on 3 October, the National Pizza Awards will see chefs from Edinburgh to London showcase their skill and creativity to a panel of expert judges, including last year’s winner Luigi Forte, executive chef of Barworks; Nikki and Rich Cooper, founders of Stable Pizza; and Nabil Mankarious, managing director of Fulham Shore.

The awards aims to recognise the sheer variety of outlets – including pubs and bars, restaurants and hotels, cafés and pop-ups – producing excellent and inspired pizzas across the UK.

Finalists will have two chances to demonstrate their abilities: a Signature Round, where chefs will prepare their own bespoke recipes, and a Technical Round, in which they cook a pizza using ingredients given to them on the day.

“The judges had an extremely tough job whittling down all of the entries to just 16 finalists,” says Tristan O’Hana, editor of Casual Dining Magazine, which hosts the event. “There’s no doubt that the National Pizza Awards 2017 will showcase the skill and creativity of pizza chefs across the UK. It’s going to be a great battle.”
