Bodean’s executive chef Andrew Bush has won an all-expenses-paid trip to Memphis this May to attend the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest.
Bush will witness nearly 250 teams from around the world and across the US compete for the title of World Champion, with more than $115,000 in prize money up for grabs. Pork categories include Ribs, Shoulder and Whole Hog, as well as additional challenges of Hot Wings, Sauce and Anything But Pork.
The executive chef secured his place by entering a competition by French’s and Frank’s RedHot Foodservice.
“As barbecue specialists, the championships are really well known to Bodean’s, which is why I entered in the first place,” says Bush. “I can’t quite believe I’m actually going; it’s pretty surreal. May can’t come soon enough now – I can’t wait to experience the sights, smells and tastes for myself, and hopefully bring some insights back to the Bodean’s kitchens.”
Chris Cannon, commercial controller at McCormick (UK), which owns French’s and Frank’s adds: “Many congratulations to Andrew – we can’t wait to share with him a true taste of deep south hospitality – and where better than the home of barbecue! This event is a true showcase for the barbecue sub-culture – a place to learn new techniques and try new and exciting flavours. Thousands make a pilgrimage there every year and we’re delighted that Andrew can join us in Memphis.”
Ten runners up have won a branded barbecue barrel.
The World Barbecue Championships takes place 15-18 May 2019.
