‘Too much tomato’ in a tomato soup has been revealed by online course provider Virtual College as one of the most ridiculous reasons customers have sent back food in restaurants.
The research found that customers have a tendency to get confused about the ingredients in dishes, with similar complaints including humous tasting too much like chickpeas and a French onion soup being ‘too oniony’.
Guests also send back food after forgetting their own food allergies, with one customer having ordered a seafood linguine despite being allergic to fish and another sending back a cheeseburger because they are lactose-intolerant.
Customers have also sent back steak for being too bloody despite requesting for it to be cooked rare, or for being overcooked despite asking for well done. Others have complained that freshly shelled oysters were too raw or that steak tartare wasn’t cooked enough.
